How to install low voltage lighting in your deck to obtain the best results. Preferred Properties Landscape Lighting designer Michael Gotowala walks us through the professional way to light up the deck with step lights, Orions and Puck Lites

Split and strip your wires. Connect 1 side of the split wire to one side of the socket. And again with the other side.

Strip and split your wire. Insert one side into slot A and the other into slot B. Do the same with multiple runs of wire.

Run your 16 G wire from post to post under the handrail. Staple up the wire every 6″ or so without stapling through the wire.

Take your 1/2″ drill bit and drill from under the hand rail up at an angle into your auger bit hole

Take your 1 3/4″ Forstner bit and drill down over your auger bit hole about 1.5″ deep. This hole allows you to tuck in your wire connections with ease.

Take your 1″ Auger bit and drill down through the top of the post to a point that is just below the hand rail.

Check the top of the post to make sure the deck light fits down far enough onto the post to allow it to be screwed in.
